Great Tribulation 5: Frontal Assault
Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9, ESV)
Previously . . . Katie and Rachel met in Kataan to plan their mission with Pastor David and Anna. They proclaimed the gospel ultimatum there, with miraculous results. Eighty percent of the village responded positively. Other members of the 144,000 were experiencing similar results around the world. The Two Witnesses pronounced the first Trumpet judgment just before the earth passed through an asteroid field, raining down fire, destroying satellites, and turning oceans red with iron oxide. In response, the Antichrist concocted a story that these Christians were alien invaders, and he threatened to destroy every population center that included them.
Chapter 5
A Disastrous Setback
Southeast Alaska near Ketchikan
The August drizzle produced a continuous, rhythmic tapping against the window of the small cabin. Katie’s fingers turned the volume, squelch, and frequency dials of the old ham radio, her heart pounding as she tried to reach Pastor David Kusteel.
“Mentor, it’s princess. Can you hear me?”
Static crackled ominously. She glanced at Rachel, who sat with a quiet but intense focus, eyes closed in prayer.
Rachel encouraged her, “Katie, you know the atmospherics have been bad lately, with all the stuff going on in space, so keep trying,” her voice steady despite the concern in her own heart.
Katie twisted the dial, hoping, praying. Suddenly, they felt the cabin floor tremble. An earthquake? Seconds later, they heard and felt the shock wave of a concussive blast. Sounds far away, to the west. Toward Kataan? Both women froze.
“What was that?” Katie’s voice was barely above a whisper.
Rachel opened her eyes. Dread was etched on her face. “We need to go. Now.”
Without another word, they gathered their gear.
Outside, Ethan said, “I’m coming with you.”
Katie’s mind raced as she started the floatplane. She knew the explosion wasn’t normal. In her gut, she knew it was something much worse.
The floatplane sped across the water, taking off into the gray, rain-laden sky. Their home coastline faded behind them as they flew at low altitude through the rugged, raw beauty of Southeast Alaska. Katie thought about Kataan, her home village, the place where she spent her early, innocent years before her world erupted into chaos.
As they neared Kataan village, Katie smelled it—the acrid, burnt smell of a thermobaric, fuel-air bomb. She remembered the smell from her combat tour in Kygyristan. Seconds later, they saw a charred, smoking wasteland where the village once existed.
“Kataan... it’s gone.” Katie’s voice cracked as she fought back tears.
Rachel’s grip on her seat tightened. “David and Anna...”
They flew past where the village once thrived, the stark reality sinking in. All the buildings were reduced to ashes and rubble. No sign of life. Total devastation.
“Nothing could survive that,” Ethan said gently, shaking his head in disbelief.
Their return flight was silent, except for the droning of the engine and the rain pattering against the plane’s skin. Juan met them when they landed.
“They’re all gone,” Katie said simply. The words felt foreign in her mouth, unreal.
Juan stepped closer, his face a mask of concern. “What do you mean?”
“Hussein’s forces.” Ethan’s eyes burned with unspoken anger. “They destroyed Kataan with a huge firebomb. Nothing survived.”
Juan crossed himself, mumbling a prayer in Spanish.
Holding her portable shortwave radio, Catalina said, “Reports are coming in from all over the world.” Global newscasters are reporting similar destruction around the world, even including some large cities that were destroyed by nuclear bombs.
A Necessary Step to Protect the Greater Good
Later that day, Hussein appeared on a global TV broadcast. The little TV’s screen flickered with the familiar emblem of the global government, a globe encircled by a wreath, symbolizing unity and peace. Wearing a serious and sincere expression, Hussein appeared.
“Citizens of the world, today we face an unspeakable tragedy. It’s with a heavy heart that I address you, as we mourn the loss of countless lives in our ongoing battle against the alien invasion.”
His voice faltered slightly, a well-rehearsed pause to convey deep sorrow.
“Our global brothers and sisters were sacrificed, not in vain, but for the preservation of mankind—you and me. Aliens had infiltrated their societies, poisoning people’s minds, leading them away from unity and into chaos. The destruction—of entire cities and villages—was a terrible but necessary step to protect the greater good.”
A few moments of silence followed, allowing the gravity of his words to permeate through the broadcast.
The Enemies We Face?
“The enemies we face are deceitful and cunning. They manipulated people, twisted their beliefs, and turned them into ambassadors of anarchy. It is not the will of our government to bring harm to anyone, but we must remain resolute.”
Hussein’s countenance softened.
“Let us remember those who have fallen with a renewed commitment to our cause. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and it’s our duty to ensure their deaths are not in vain. We must stay united, vigilant, and unwavering in our pursuit of peace and unity against these alien intruders.”
He leaned forward, his expression now showing determination.
“Remember, my friends, that division is the enemy’s greatest weapon. In our unity, we find strength. In our compliance, we find peace. Be vigilant. Report any suspicious activities, any signs of this alien treason, to ensure the safety of our global family. Together, we can and will prevail.”
The screen cut to black, the global government emblem returning as the broadcast ended, leaving the world under the spell of Hussein’s toxic but persuasive narrative.
God Sends Them Delusion
Katie asked Rachel, “How does Satan deceive the masses so easily? He’s got them convinced God’s love and the message of salvation are evil, while Hussein is their savior—even though he just murdered tens of millions of innocent people around the world. It’s almost as unbelievable as when they believed men could ‘chest feed’ babies, or when that Supreme Court justice said she couldn’t define what a woman is.”
Rachel said, “The Bible says when people refuse to love the truth, God will send them a strong delusion, so that they’ll believe what’s false, condemning them because they choose to sin while rejecting the truth.”
Their strong delusion is from God? That puts things in a different light.
Ketchikan’s local news anchor appeared on the screen, speaking in a solemn tone. “Ladies and gentlemen, as a local part of our global government’s action against the alien invasion, we regret to inform you that Kataan village has been completely destroyed.”
As he spoke, they showed video of Kataan’s charred, smoking remains. “Authorities claim the destruction was a necessary measure, as the village had recently become an alien stronghold.”
Katie felt heartbreak at the media’s deception. How can people believe such lies?
The evening dragged on as they listened to broadcasts from around the globe, each report more horrifying than the last. A few of these reports included,
“Jakarta Indonesia was pulverized after Hussein’s air force dropped anti-personnel ‘cluster bombs’ onto the defenseless population.
A firestorm consumed the people in shantytowns around Cape Town, South Africa, after Hussein’s air force dropped incendiary bombs on them.
A large nuclear blast obliterated Beijing China, killing tens of millions.”
When the news anchor reported a hot-line number to report anyone promoting “alien treason,” Katie felt a chill run down her spine.
Ethan’s Two Questions
A week later, Katie woke in Ethan’s embrace, dawn’s soft light filtered through their cabin’s window. She opened her eyes to see Ethan adoring her face.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
She smiled. Covering her mouth to protect from projecting ‘morning breath,’ she said, “Good morning, handsome.”
She rolled out of bed, dressed, and started the butane camp stove to heat water for tea. After they’d separately visited the outhouse and washed up, they sat in the quiet cabin together, enjoying mugs of wild rose hip tea with honey.
Ethan broke the silence. “Katie, I’ve gotta ask you two questions that’ve been bugging me for a while. You said that you and Rachel were raptured into heaven as part of the 144000. So, first, was that the rapture we’ve all been taught to expect? And second, the Book of Revelation says the 144000 are from the twelve tribes of Israel, and you’re not Jewish, so what’s up with that?”
Rapture?
“Yes, we were snatched up, or raptured, into heaven. But it wasn’t the rapture most Christians are expecting. Our rapture was like Paul’s. He was raptured into the third heaven, the same as Rachel and me, only to come back to minister as a mortal man for years afterward until his eventual martyrdom.”
“Our rapture fulfilled the prophecies about the ‘latter rain’ outpouring of the Spirit, and the ‘Arise, Shine’ chapters in Isaiah. Our rapture experience commissioned and equipped us for a prophetic end-time mission back here on earth.”
“In contrast, in the final rapture, the dead and living saints will get their glorified, immortal bodies, and they’ll dwell with Jesus forever.”
144,000 - From the Twelve Tribes of Israel?
Ethan said, “Okay, so there isn’t just one kind of rapture. What about you and Rachel being part of the twelve tribes of Israel?”
Katie said, “Okay. So, the question is, how are we two Native Americans part of the twelve tribes of Israel?”
Ethan nodded.
Native Citizenship Comes by Birth
“Let’s start with the basics. I think you’ll agree the ancient twelve tribes of Israel included everyone who was born to Israeli parents. So, people automatically became Israelites by being born of Israeli parents, just as I am an American because my parents were American.”
Ethan nodded. “Okay, simple enough. Nobody could argue with that.”
You Must Be Born Again
“Jesus told the Jewish leader Nicodemus that a person must be ‘born again’ to see and to enter the kingdom of God. This is because, ‘That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.’
“In saying this, Jesus was emphasizing the primacy of spiritual life over physical, fleshly life. We are born physically from our mothers, but to see and enter God’s kingdom we must be born again, spiritually, by God’s Spirit.”
“Okay, go on.”
“Since the first century, all true Christians have been born of God’s Spirit. This birth gives them citizenship in the Commonwealth of Israel.”
Ethan said, “Ahhh, Okay. Just like the ancient Israelites were born into one of the twelve tribes.”
Katie continued, “Yes. Since the crucifixion, there’s no more Jew or Gentile in God’s kingdom. All must come through the cross for forgiveness before they can be born again. This is why the apostle Paul wrote, ‘neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.’”
The Commonwealth of Israel
Ethan countered, “I know we’ve been born again, and I’m thankful for the positive changes in my life since then. So, I’m tracking with you up to that point. But let’s go back to the Commonwealth of Israel. What is it, and where do you find it in the Bible?”
“A commonwealth is a group of sovereign states cooperating to help each other improve the lives of their citizens. The British commonwealth is a good example. It had over 50 countries and almost one-third of the world’s population, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, and dozens more. It included a multitude of languages and cultures, all cooperating for their mutual benefit.”
“The apostle Paul told the gentiles of the Ephesian church they were fellow citizens with the saints in the Commonwealth of Israel.”
“You might be wondering, ‘Who are the saints in the Commonwealth of Israel Paul referred to?’ Surely, they include ancient patriarchs like Enoch and Noah, believers from Abraham and Sarah to Moses, those under the Mosaic covenant like Joshua, Rahab, David, Esther, and Daniel, and finally those under the New Covenant, including you and me.”
“These groups had different covenants, different levels of divine revelation, and differing ways to approach God. But they all had two things in common—faith in the Living God, and faithfulness to him.”
“Now, back to the question of how two Native Americans are part of the twelve tribes of Israel.”
“I believe the New Jerusalem in the Book of Revelation is a physical representation of the Commonwealth of Israel. It’s a huge, crystal-clear, gold pyramid, radiating the glory of God. Its base is 1500 miles square, and it’s 1500 miles high. John saw it coming down from heaven, adorned as a bride for her husband. It has 12 gates, three on each side, and each gate is inscribed with the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.”
“Adding all this up, here’s why Rachel and I are members of the twelve tribes of Israel:
There is no longer a distinction between Jew and Gentile, or male and female, in the New Covenant. These fleshly distinctions don’t apply in the born-again spiritual realm.
All of God’s saints, from Adam’s son Seth until the last person to be born-again in the future, is a fellow citizen in God’s Commonwealth of Israel.
The literal twelve tribes of Israel existed for a relatively short time, from about 1750 BC until the dispersion of the Northern ten tribes in 722 BC.
The literal twelve tribes of Israel didn’t include Seth, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, or any other saints before the twelve sons of Jacob were born. Neither did they include the millions of gentile Christians who are now grafted into the Commonwealth through spiritual re-birth.
Therefore, God’s Commonwealth of Israel is a spiritual entity that includes all of God’s saints since Adam’s son Seth.
The concept of the twelve tribes is inscribed in the twelve gates of the heavenly New Jerusalem.
Therefore, as fellow citizens in God’s Commonwealth of Israel, we must belong to one of its twelve tribes. I don’t know which tribe I’m in, but I expect when we receive our glorified, immortal bodies, we’ll also know which gate in the heavenly city to enter through.
Ethan said, “Hmmm. What does that mean for the modern state of Israel? It’s obvious that they still figure into God’s plan somehow. Where do they fit in?”
What About Modern Israel?
“Yes, God definitely uses the modern nation of Israel as a sign to the other nations. And they still have a special status in God’s plan, but not because they’re godly. In general, modern Israelites have always been anti-Jesus and tolerant of sinfulness . . . for example, Tel Aviv’s annual ‘pride parade’ is world famous.”
‘All Israel’ Will Be Saved
Ethan asked, “So, what’s the destiny of the physical Jews?”
“God loves them and has many promises toward them that he will fulfill. But, with that said, there’s only one way to be reconciled with God, and that’s through Jesus. Since the cross, he is the one and only door into the Commonwealth of Israel. Without repentance and faith in Jesus, having Jewish flesh won’t get you in.”
“The prophet Zechariah tells us that a remnant of Jews will survive the tribulation in the land of Israel, and a time is coming when ‘they will look upon him whom they pierced, and weep for him as one weeps for a firstborn child.’”
“I believe Paul was thinking of Zechariah’s prophecy when he wrote, ‘a partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way, all Israel will be saved.’”
“I think Paul was combining these two prophecies, saying after the fullness of the Gentiles is attained, Jesus will appear to the surviving Jews, who will repent of their hard-heartedness and be saved at Jesus’ second coming. And then, all the Commonwealth of Israel will be saved.”
“I place this at Jesus’ second coming—at the last trumpet. Why? Because of the glorious verse that says, “For if the Jews’ rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?”
“So, does that answer your questions about the rapture and how gentile Christians can be in the twelve tribes?”
Ethan said, “Yes, but now my head is spinning.” He kissed her and said, “Thanks, sweetie.”
Katie and Rachel ‘Get Back on the Horse’
An hour later, Katie and Ethan met the others in the longhouse, where Catalina made breakfast of venison jerky, oatmeal with honey, and sassafras tea.
During the past week, Katie and Rachel’s grief crystalized into resolve. Their mission was far from over. If anything, their purpose was clearer than ever.
“We can’t go to the villages like we planned,” Katie stated, breaking the silence. “If Hussein targets a village whenever revival breaks out, we’ll be sentencing them to death.”
Rachel nodded in agreement. “Right. We need a new strategy.”
Katie said, “What if we start a revival in Hussein’s regional control center, right here in Ketchikan?”
“But Lilith is there!” Ethan interjected, his concern evident. “She’ll arrest you.”
Katie met his gaze. Her eyes steeled with determination. “She can try.”
Realizing her statement sounded like false bravado, she explained, “During our week in paradise, we learned how to escape. If we call on Jesus, he will somehow deliver us as long as our mission is still incomplete.”
Ethan said, “This I’ve gotta see.”
A Frontal Attack in Lilith’s City
Under a steady, light drizzle, Ketchikan’s city center hummed with activity, oblivious to the impending confrontation. Katie and Rachel entered purposefully into the town square, taking a stand next to Lilith’s guillotine. Ethan and Juan followed at a distance, blending in.
Katie took a deep breath, feeling the cool, damp air fill her lungs. She spoke, her voice strong despite the knot of anxiety in her chest.
“People of Ketchikan, hear me!” Katie’s loud voice cut through the bustle of the morning. A few curious passers-by stopped and looked at her.
“This guillotine is a symbol of Hussein’s fascist, satanic, murderous reign of terror. Hussein is lying to you, and this guillotine is his way of visibly threatening you with death if you don’t comply with his hellish regime.”
The bystanders looked at the two women with amazement. From the looks on their faces, they were wondering, ‘Who has the gall to say such things publicly? Who are these people? Don’t they know the penalty, or what just happened in cities, towns, and villages all around the world?’
Raising her hand, Rachel spoke next. “This guillotine murdered my husband, Moses, who many of you knew for years as the only black man within 200 miles, and as the Breakwater restaurant manager. He courageously testified to the truth of God, at this spot, before Lilith Thornblood murdered him with this guillotine.”
“We come with a message from God. We proclaim to you his gospel ultimatum.”
The crowd was increasing in size, but looked confused.
Katie spoke next. “You know us. We are local Alaskan Natives, from the Klinatok and Junaqan tribes, who speak the truth about Almighty God, our creator, sustainer, and Lord, and Jesus, who died to reconcile us to God. He loves you and wants to be reconciled to each one of you. Follow him, not Satan!”
The crowd murmured. Some looked disinterested to hear a religious message and walked away.
Those who remained looked on with a mix of shock and curiosity.
Rachel scanned the crowd, her prophetic gift leading her to a young woman standing off to the side. She pointed. “You, with the yellow umbrella, you’ve been suffering from chronic hip pain for years. The Lord knows your struggles.”
The woman’s eyes widened, tears welling up. “How... how did you know that?”
Katie approached her. “Because God knows you and wants to heal you. Do you want to be free from this pain?”
“Y-Y-Yes, I do. But I’m not religious.”
“That’s okay. God isn’t religious either.”
Katie took the woman’s hand and prayed, “Lord, heal her and remove her pain.”
The woman’s face lit up with a mixture of surprise and joy as her pain vanished. “It’s amazing! The pain’s gone!”
The crowd hummed with energy, attracting more people to stop to find out what was happening.
Katie felt the weight of the moment. She raised her hands to the sky. “Lord, show them your power,” her loud voice strong with faith. “Rain, stop!”
As if commanded by a celestial hand, the clouds parted, and bright sunlight pierced through, bathing the square in a warm, golden glow. The crowd gasped, their disbelief and skepticism turned to amazement and potential belief.
Rachel stepped forward to proclaim the gospel ultimatum, her voice loud and clear, ringing with conviction.
“Jesus Christ died for your sins. He was buried, and on the third day, he rose again! Jesus is the only Savior. He is the Christ, the Messiah, anointed by God to be the king over all nations. Faith in Jesus gives new life, peace, and the promise of eternal blessing in heaven.”
Katie continued the message, “In contrast, Hussein is the Antichrist. Satan has possessed him to establish a Satanic global government over all nations. He rules through fear and violence, threatening to kill everyone who follows the truth of God. Following Hussein’s lies will lead you to bondage, death, and eternal condemnation in hell.”
Rachel said, “God has sent us to proclaim this ultimatum to every person in Southeast Alaska. Each of you must choose who you’ll follow, Jesus or Hussein.”
Katie spotted Ethan and Juan standing at the back of the crowd, their expressions filled with awe.
“Hussein is the Antichrist,” she declared. “His story about aliens is a lie. Hussein’s enemy is God, and he is desperate to keep you from hearing the truth that will give you eternal life. His recent global atrocities, killing millions who may have heard this message, testify to his evil.”
Rachel and Katie recognized four of Lilith’s agents moving through the crowd toward them. By the time Ethan noticed them, it was too late. They’d already passed him, so he couldn’t prevent them from reaching his wife and Rachel.
Katie said, “Jesus, protect us.”
The crowd gasped as the agents reached out to seize the two women.
Just as the agents’ hands touched Katie and Rachel, the crowd heard a whooshing sound and saw a blinding flash as the women disappeared.
They’d been pulled into the spiritual realm by two angels. Amazingly, Katie could still see into the physical realm, but people in the physical realm couldn’t see them. They laughed with joy as they saw Lilith’s agents stumbling, confused, and angry.
This must be the angelic realm, where we can see them, but they can’t see us.
Home Again
Somehow, in an instant, Katie and Rachel appeared inside the longhouse, startling Catalina and her boys.
Catching her breath, Catalina asked, “Are you real, or are you ghosts?”
The two women laughed. Katie said, “Sorry to scare you, Catalina. Yes, we’re real, and everything is okay. Nobody got captured or hurt today. Juan and Ethan should be returning before long. We were just able to travel here using God’s express lane.”
Miguel hesitantly reached out to touch Rachel’s arm.
Rachel laughed, “Now do you believe? We’re not ghosts.”
Ethan and Juan arrived two hours later, their faces bright with joy as they recounted the crowd’s reaction.
“That was incredible,” Ethan exclaimed, eyes wide with amazement. “The crowd was completely captivated.”
Juan nodded, excited. “Dios está con ustedes.”
Catalina said, “In English, Juan.” Turning to Katie and Rachel, “Juan said ‘God is with you both.’”
“Sorry,” Juan said, “I’m so excited, I forgot.”
Katie smiled, warmth spreading through her. “This is just the beginning. Hussein thinks he’s the world leader, but every breath he takes is a gift from God. As we follow God’s Spirit, we will overcome all our adversaries. We’re destined to win.”
The Third Angel Blew His Trumpet
During the month of August and into September the celestial remnants of the asteroid cloud were still falling onto the earth. From the Book of Revelation, the media called it ‘wormwood’ because the iron oxide in the space dust turned surface water in lakes and streams red, making the water bitter. Thousands of people worldwide died from drinking unfiltered water, intensifying the sense of global apocalyptic dread.
Near the longhouse, the water supply for Katie and her fellow saints came out of an underground spring, so they had pure spring water to drink.
A Hopeful Beginning
Amidst the chaos in the world, hope for the success of their mission flickered brighter. They knew the dangers ahead, but they were committed, and believed if they followed the Spirit’s leading they’d fulfill their mission. Their message was bearing fruit, and God protected them in their first direct confrontation. The battle was far from over, but they were encouraged by the early successes they’d already experienced.
As they prepared for the challenges ahead, Katie prayed fervently, “Guide us, Lord. Lead and strengthen us to complete our assigned mission. May your truth and your kingdom prevail on the earth.”
From within her heart, a question arose, “Katie, if people believe our message and want to come out of the Devil’s world system, where can they go? What will they eat, and how will they be protected from being killed by Lilith or Hussein?”
“Lord, I don’t know. We’re few, and our resources are limited. But you know, so please teach us, and we’ll do it.”
Coming Next Week . . . Hussein’s and Lilith’s frustration as the gospel gains followers. Katie and Rachel learn how God promised to nourish people who come out of the global economic system.

The word ‘rapture’ is from the Greek word harpazo. It means to be seized, snatched away, plucked, or taken by force.
In 2 Corinthians 12:2 Paul was caught up (harpazo) to the third heaven, where he “heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter.” Afterward, he returned as a mortal man.

The 144,000 from the 12 tribes of Israel: Revelation 7:1-8. This version of the 12 tribes is unique, not found anywhere else in the Bible. In it, the tribe of Dan is missing, replaced by Joseph’s son Manasseh.
Regarding God’s method of salvation today, there’s no longer a distinction between Jews and Gentiles: Romans 10:12, Galatians 3:28, Colossians 3:11

I’m finding this not only entertaining but very educational. I like how you are able to bring modern day news into the story, and the scientific explanation of meteors turning the water red makes sense but still allows for the biblical prophecy. All in all, I see the prophecies coming true, I see how people can be swayed towards evil, and I see how difficult the path will be trying to stay true to God. But there is no other way, but God’s way.
Definitely one of my favorite chapters. The 12 tribes, the 12 gates, the commonwealth of Israel, being grafted in, very interesting. I liked how Katie and Rachel remain human, with the Holy Spirit working miraculously through them.
