Chapter 3 Katie Walks on Water
Off-Grid Feast of Pentecost
Near Ketchikan, Alaska, June 6th
Katie inhaled a deep, invigorating breath out of the cool breeze. The crisp air enhanced by the fresh scent of spruce and cedar. The clear blue sky had just a few wisps of clouds drifting lazily overhead. Their four mountainside homes, nestled in the rugged beauty near Ketchikan, Alaska, offered a panoramic view of the evergreen forests that stretched down to the saltwater fiord 2000 feet below.
The smell of smoked salmon filled the air—a tantalizing promise of the feast to come. Ethan, Katie, Rachel, and Juan's family of four were gathered outdoors, taking full advantage of the pleasant weather. The group set up a large wooden picnic table adorned with fresh wildflowers. The table displayed a variety of foods they skillfully foraged, hunted, or caught themselves, a testament to their survival skills in a world where they could no longer buy anything without CBDC access.
Katie's eyes roved over the spread, each dish a small victory against the oppressive global regime. There were platters of smoked salmon, the oily flesh flaking off perfectly under a fork, revealing the rich, pink color. Juan, a professional seafood chef, had outdone himself, marinating a batch of salmon steaks in a mixture of honey and freshly foraged wild garlic and herbs. The sweet and savory aroma was irresistible.
Next to the salmon, a large pot of clams steamed in a broth of wild ginger and spruce tips sent columns of steam into the cool air. The clams, harvested from the nearby shore, had a subtle, briny sweetness that paired perfectly with the uniquely Alaskan blend of seasonings. Ethan had taken charge of the clams, meticulously cleaning each shell and making sure the broth was infused with flavor.
Rachel prepared a salad of wild greens, a vibrant mix of dandelion leaves, miner's lettuce, and salty sea lettuce, interspersed with bright bursts of color from edible wildflowers. The salad was tossed with a light dressing made from hand-pressed raspberry vinegar and honey from a local hive, creating a tangy, sweet balance.
On another part of the table, Juan's wife Catalina had prepared a hearty stew in a cast iron Dutch oven, using canned Sitka Blacktail deer meat, canned potatoes, carrots, and celery from last year’s garden, and a variety of fresh, foraged mushrooms—which both Catalina and Rachel verified were safe to eat. The savory aroma of the stew, simmering with wild sage and thyme, promised warmth and comfort.
Beside the stew, a loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread, made from a sourdough starter that Rachel nurtured herself, sat ready to soak up the stew’s rich broth.
As they gathered around the table, the fellowship among them was real, tangible, and deeply heartfelt. Ethan, with his polite yet direct manner, asked God’s blessing over the meal, expressing gratitude for their ability to provide for themselves in such challenging times. His voice was soft but filled with conviction, resonating with the faith they held that God was providing all their needs, plus many of their wants.
Katie listened to the blessing, her focus drifting momentarily to the gentle sounds of nature surrounding them—a distant eagle’s piercing call, and the soft rustling of evergreen trees in the breeze. She felt a deep sense of peace, reminding her of why they gathered to celebrate these sacred moments. The beauty of their environment, the bounty of their labor, and the company of loved ones made this Pentecost feast feel sacred.
Miguel, Juan's eldest son, proudly showcased his catch—a platter of crispy, golden-brown trout fillets. Previously, Juan taught his boys to dip a trout in egg before coating it with a flour/cornmeal batter, then fry it in olive oil or bacon fat. But, in order to preserve their eggs, cornmeal, flour and oil, Miguel chose to broil each fish to perfection over an open fire. Every bite was a crunchy, tender delight, reminding Katie of the simpler joys of their hunting and fishing expeditions.
For dessert, Raphael, the younger son, picked a basket full of wild berries. The mix of blueberries, salmonberries, and huckleberries was accompanied by a large spoonful of fresh, hand-whipped cream—a rare treat in their barter-based economy.
Laughter erupted from an exchange between Miguel and Raphael, breaking Katie from her thoughts. She watched as Rachel, ever the prophetess, scanned the horizon, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of purpose. Even in this moment of tranquility, Katie could sense an underlying current of anticipation. Today was special, a day of promise and revelation.
Katie’s attention returned to the feast before her. She reached for a piece of smoked salmon, savoring its rich, oily texture. The flavors burst on her tongue, smoky and sweet, capturing the essence of Alaska. She chased the bite with a spoonful of the seafood broth, the sharpness of the wild ginger and the subtle spruce tips dancing together perfectly.
As she enjoyed the food, the faintest breeze lifted strands of her long black hair, tickling the back of her neck. She tied it back quickly, noting the cool touch of the wind as it brushed against her skin. The sun cast a warm, golden glow over the area, the light filtering through the trees, creating patterns that danced on the forest floor.
The sense of community, of shared labor and celebration, was heartening. Juan and Catalina exchanged smiles over the table, pride evident in their eyes. Ethan attacked his meal with the disciplined efficiency of a soldier, yet there was a softness in his demeanor, a feeling of belonging that contrasted his usually guarded nature.
Katie couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. For the food, the fellowship, the faith that supported them, and the beauty surrounding them. Little did she know, this day would soon transform from one of simple earthly joy to an experience that would redefine her forever.
In the midst of laughter and shared stories, a sudden, inexplicable feeling of anticipation washed over her. She locked eyes with Rachel, who seemed to sense it too. It was as if the very air around them had shifted, becoming charged with divine presence.
Katie squeezed Rachel’s hand, and with a glance exchanged a silent promise: Whatever came next, they would face it together, fortified by their faith, their love for one another, and the unwavering belief that they were part of a greater plan.
Suddenly, the world shifted. One moment, Katie was savoring a piece of crispy trout, and the next, the atmosphere around her seemed to hum with otherworldly energy. She felt a sudden pull. In a bewildering instant, everything changed. Before she could react, Katie found herself whisked away.
Caught Up to Heaven
Katie blinked, trying to adjust to her new surroundings. As her vision cleared, she found herself standing in a different world—a place of life and peace, with breathtaking beauty. Katie stood in a vibrant, light-drenched field, which initially blinded her with its brightness.
Her eyes quickly adjusted. The sky was clear blue, without a cloud. A sea of colors danced with the breeze, with long green grass, wildflowers, and groves of fruitful trees stretching for miles. A bird serenaded her, its song like a mockingbird’s, but even better. The aroma of wildflowers mixed with the fresh scent of grass and earth, filling Katie with wonder and serenity. She noticed there was no sun1, and yet she felt the warm light on her face, so gentle it felt like a caress.
“Katie!” a familiar woman’s voice called out.
Katie spun around to see her mother and father, looking youthful, vibrant, and healthy. When Katie turned, both her parents saw the three-inch scar on her left cheek, but it didn’t seem to matter to them, and they never asked about it. Tears welled up in Katie’s eyes as they both embraced her. Their love and joy overwhelmed her senses.
“Katie, we are so proud of you,” her father said, his voice filled with emotion.
Uncle Andy approached, his face noticeably more radiant than the others. He pulled her into a bear hug. “You’ve grown so much, Katie. I’m so proud of you. Your faith and bravery are why you’re here.”
What? What does that mean? My faith and bravery? You’re the martyr . . .
Katie looked around at similar reunions happening all around the meadow, thousands of them, as far as she could see. Nearby, she heard people speaking Japanese, she saw African pygmies, and others attired in some kind of Asian tribal dress. There were Amazon natives, and blond Scandinavians. All were joyfully reuniting with loved ones.
Katie gasped in amazement, her eyes wide as she tried to take it all in. She recalled the Bible passage, “by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”2
In the distance, she saw Rachel in Moses’ embrace. His face was radiant, like Andy’s.
So beautiful!
She noticed a complex of adobe-like dwellings nearby, bordering the meadow. They had no doors in the doorways, or glass in the windows. That’s strange.
Katie’s father must have read her mind, because he said, “There’s no danger here, or bad weather, or pesky insects, or marriage. So, our living spaces don’t need closed doors or windows.”
“We’ve got an hour or two,” Katie’s mother said. “Let’s get caught up.” She took Katie by the hand and led her into one of the adobe houses, smiling proudly all the way.
It feels weird to pass through an entryway with no door to close, and no need for locks.
“Welcome to our home.”
The house and furnishings were simple, but elegant, and it was larger inside than Katie expected. The walls were a pleasant light-brown color that appeared to be made of dried mud. Everything was spotless and clean. No dust.
Katie sat at their long dining table, running her fingers along the smooth wood. She felt an otherworldly sense of calm and security. How did I get to this place? Or, is this a dream?
Katie asked, “Am I dead? How did I get here?”
Her father laughed, “No, child, you’re not dead. And this isn’t a dream. You’re just visiting, and we’ve been expecting you. The Kusteels are our neighbors, and they’re expecting David and Anna today too.”
Katie flashed-back to Anna rocking her like a baby after Aunt Ella shamed and rejected her in Kataan years ago. “I remember them. They’re good people.”
Do my parents know what I’ve done after their deaths?
Her dad said, “There’s going to be a holy convocation—a meeting—in an hour or so. It’ll answer all your questions.”
They all sat around the long table, sharing stories, and basking in each other’s companionship.
Everyone’s past sins and failures seem to be forgotten in this place. If you’re here, all your regrets and shame are already forgiven and forgotten.3
Speaking of sins and failures . . . as if on cue, Katie’s two aunts entered the house—Aunt Ella and Aunt Sarah.
Aunt Sarah was Andy’s wife who drowned in the plane crash, when Katie was eight years old, along with Katie’s parents.
Aunt Ella became Katie’s guardian after she became an orphan. Eight years later, when Katie was sixteen, Ella shamed and rejected Katie after she learned of Katie’s pregnancy and subsequent abortion.
Katie hadn’t seen Aunt Ella since that time. Apparently, Katie’s hurt wasn’t completely healed, or forgotten, because when Katie saw Ella, Katie’s gut instinctively tightened in fear, but only momentarily, because Katie could see the love now emanating from Ella’s eyes.
Ella gave Katie a warm hug. “Katie, you belong here,” Ella said. “Heaven is proud of you. We all are.”
Katie wiped tears of joy and relief from her eyes.
So, not only are my past sins and failures forgiven and forgotten, but they seem to be proud of me for some reason. Andy said something about my faith and bravery being why I’m here.”
Time seemed to flow differently in heaven, allowing them to cherish every moment. Yet, Katie felt anticipation building in her heart, a feeling she couldn't quite understand, or explain.
They’d enjoyed talking for an hour or two when a trumpet sounded, calling everyone to the holy convocation.
A Holy Convocation
Katie’s family escorted her to a grand, open meadow filled with hundreds of thousands of people. The place looked like a snapshot from a perfect dream—lush grass underfoot, wildflowers, the deep blue sky with a golden light that softly illuminated everything.
Then Katie saw Jesus. She recognized him intuitively. He emanated a gentle and pleasing glow of divine warmth and love. Her breath momentarily stopped at the sight of him. His presence exuded an overwhelming sense of divine power as he looked at each of them with eyes full of love and mutual respect.
When Jesus raised his hand to quiet everyone, Katie noticed light through the hole in his wrist.
He said, “Welcome, my beloved brethren, on this final Shavuot,” his voice like a melody that filled the air and resonated in their hearts.
Amazing! Somehow his voice is being understood in every language represented here. What does he mean, ‘this final Shavuot?’
144,000 Firstfruits Sealed
“On this day, 3000 years ago, I sealed the Mosaic Covenant with the elders of Israel on Mount Sinai. On this day, 2000 years ago, under the New Covenant I sealed my body of disciples with the Holy Spirit. Now, today, I’m putting my seal on you, the firstfruits4 of the final harvest of mankind. When you return to your earthly homes, you will return in power and glory as the manifested sons of God.”5
What!?
Their Mission
“I’ve brought you here to commission and empower you to be my final witnesses during the greatest period of tribulation6 since Adam. Your mission is to go into Satan’s kingdom and proclaim the gospel ultimatum to every soul within your respective homelands.”
“Bring multitudes out of darkness and into light, out of lies and into truth, and out of death into eternal life. Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Assure them of this—if they are faithful unto death, I will personally give to each one the crown of life. Every person on earth must clearly hear this ultimatum and choose whether to follow me, or to follow Satan. Everyone must choose. And then the end will come.”7
I guess my time of hunkering down in the woods is over.
Jesus Removes Their Unbelief
Jesus lifted both arms high, his palms facing the assembly.
“I now remove the carnal veil of unbelief that opposed your faith.”
He lowered his arms. “You always had my power, but now, without the world’s unbelief, your faith will function as I intended it. From this day forward, whatever you say, believing, shall be done for you.8 Nothing shall be impossible for you. Greater works shall you do than I did when I was mortal.”9
Wow! That’s an amazing promise!
A mixture of awe and resolve filled Katie as she realized the gravity of their mission. This is the end time, and she felt honored to be chosen as part of this elite group of disciples—even if it was a suicide mission.
The Latter Rain Outpouring
Jesus said, “You’ve all believed in Me, and you’ve all remained faithful through many severe trials. As a result, our Father is now going to seal10 you for your mission.”
Seal?
Katie noticed a tangible shift in the atmosphere. The air hummed with a spiritual charge, akin to the sensation of static electricity, but far more profound.
A brilliant light descended from above, bathing each of the 144,000 in a radiant glow. Tongues of fire,11 reminiscent of the first Pentecost, appeared above their heads, yet these flames were more intense, more magnificent—signifying the ‘latter rain’12 outpouring of God’s Spirit. These were not the flickering tongues of the former rain outpouring, they were blazing crowns of divine fire, visible symbols of the divine anointing now being bestowed on these elect saints.
Katie felt the heat of the holy fire, not as a burning but as an infusion of divine potential and love. It penetrated her being, filling her soul with a sense of boundless strength and purpose. She was no longer just a disciple hoping to make it to the end—God was upgrading her self-concept with the assurance of his infinite love for her, giving her faith to move mountains13 and stand against any foe.
The meadow around them shimmered with an ethereal light, as if creation itself was celebrating this monumental event.14
Around her, Katie saw her fellow mortals having the same transformative experience. Faces etched with lines from earthly struggles now glowed with heavenly radiance. Their eyes shone with the light of divine wisdom, love, and power. Katie sensed a deep connection between them all, a unity that transcended the earthly bonds they’d previously known.
Faith Guidelines and Training
“Brethren,” Jesus declared, his voice resonating with both authority and tenderness. “You may wield your faith both in heaven and on earth. Only use your power for good, never to harm.
To help you discover and develop your individual spiritual gifts, I’ve asked one of your loved ones to mentor you here for a few days. As soon as you’ve gained the proficiency needed for your mission, you’ll return in pairs to your assigned home region. No time will have passed on earth while you’re here.”
“Your mentors will meet you after this meeting. If you have any questions your mentor can’t answer, don’t hesitate to ask me in prayer.
“Finally, abide always in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. I am with you always, and I will never leave you or forsake you.” Having said this, Jesus disappeared from their sight.
“Katie.”
Katie turned to see Aunt Ella.
Smiling, Ella said, “I’m glad that Jesus asked me to be your mentor. But, it’s been a long day for you, so let’s give you some time to rest and digest everything. We can start your training in the morning.”
“Okay, that sounds good. I just have one more question for you today.”
“What is it?”
“How do you have day and night here without a sun?”
Training and Preparation
The next day in heaven...
"Katie, you've got much to learn and not much time. Are you ready?"
"I’m ready."
"Okay, let's start with the simple stuff—something you can see and feel.
Walking on Water
Aunt Ella led Katie to a serene lake.
"Today, you're gonna learn how to walk on water."
Katie looked at Ella, then down at the water's surface, doubts swirling in her mind. "It seems impossible. Nobody ever —"
"Jesus said all things are possible if you believe. Peter did it."15
Katie stepped onto the water, hesitantly. She felt the sandy bottom, with water coming up around her legs. That didn't work.
Ella waited patiently as Katie wrestled to redefine what's possible in her mind.
- Would she believe her lifelong experiences according to the world's materialistic worldview
- Or, could she trust that God's word is true?
She stepped back onto the shore, closed her eyes and prayed for faith. She stepped out again.
When she stopped believing in the law of gravity, and believed it was possible to walk on water, she didn't sink. Step by step, she walked across the lake, her heart swelling with awe and gratitude.
"I did it!"
Ella smiled. "Yes, good job! Now, just think . . . you can apply this same process to overrule other natural laws too."
Spirit Travel
Ella led her to a nearby meadow, where they sat under an apple tree. As Katie marveled about the absence of ants or gnats here to harass them, Ella said,
"Spirit travel requires both concentration and faith."
Katie said, "Spirit travel? I thought spirit travel was an occult practice?"
"Yes, there are occultists who've discovered it. There are also shamans and witch doctors who discovered how to prophesy and heal people. The enemy reveals these things to his followers and they misuse them for evil, or for personal gain. But just because they use them doesn't mean we shouldn't understand and apply the godly application of these gifts. That would be like saying we won't use electricity or fly in an airplane because evil people use those technologies too."
If godly people in the Bible used a supernatural gift, without God's rebuke, then we can assume it's safe for God's people to use them today. Regarding spirit travel, Elisha16 gained military intelligence by listening to a distant enemy king's bedroom conversations, and Paul visited the Corinthian17 and Colossian18 church gatherings 'in spirit.'
Convinced, Katie said, "Okay, I'll try."
Ella told Katie to close her eyes and focus on her spirit. "Sense the presence of God within you," she whispered, her voice like a calming balm. "Now, let go of your physical senses and trust in His guidance."
Katie felt a strange sensation, as if her spirit were untethering from her body. Suddenly, she found herself in a realm that shimmered with ethereal light. Truths and insights she never perceived before became clear. She saw connections between actions and consequences, glimpses of the future, and profound understandings of people’s hearts.
"Amazing!"
Ella smiled. "Yes, it is. And with practice, you'll learn to navigate this realm with ease."
Deliverance from Danger
Next, they focused on supernatural escapes. Ella set up scenarios where Katie had to evade imaginary threats with divine assistance. One moment, they were in a peaceful meadow. The next, simulated dangers closed in. Katie struggled at first, her mind clinging to fear.
"Trust him, Katie," Aunt Ella encouraged. "Call on His name, and He will deliver you."
The next time Katie faced a dangerous threat she said, "Jesus, help!" and found herself instantly transported to a different place. Each exercise built her confidence.
Soberly, Ella said, "There may come a time when you choose not to use this ability. Jesus used it many times during his earthly ministry,19 but when his time to become 'the Lamb of God' came, Jesus allowed himself to be captured and held as prisoner, ending with his crucifixion. He could've disappeared, or asked for twelve legions of angels to deliver him, but he didn't."
Divine Guidance
Finally, Aunt Ella taught Katie to always seek the Spirit's guidance. "Tune into God's will," she said, placing a hand over Katie’s heart. "Listen with all your heart for His wisdom."
Katie closed her eyes and opened her heart and mind to God's voice. Gradually, she felt a gentle, clear direction guiding her thoughts and actions. This divine communion filled her with profound peace and clarity.
"I wish I'd have known this long ago. It would've saved me a lot of anguish."
Ella nodded. "I know. I felt the same way."
Emotional Growth
Between these sessions, Katie and Aunt Ella spoke candidly about past hurts and misunderstandings.
"I was wrong to judge you so harshly," Aunt Ella admitted one afternoon, her voice thick with emotion. "Can you forgive me?"
Katie smiled warmly. "Of course, Aunt Ella. But you were right, and everything you said was true."
Their bond, now strengthened by mutual respect and understanding, became an enduring comfort for Katie in the days ahead.
The Antichrist's Visit
While Katie and 143,999 others were receiving training in heaven to counter the Antichrist's agenda on earth, Hussein's regime continued its relentless march toward total global control. In 97% of the UN’s global regions, Hussein's mandate for total compliance had already been achieved. In those regions, every person already pledged allegiance to Hussein and the UN SDGs.
However, a few pockets of noncompliance remained. These threatened to disrupt Satan's plan to unify all of mankind against God, and thus prevent his prophesied fate in the Lake of Fire.
Central and Southeastern Alaska were two such regions. Determined to stamp out any lingering defiance, Hussein set out to address these troublesome zones personally. His next stop was Ketchikan, where he would confront Lilith Thornblood about her region's sub-par performance. After Ketchikan, he’d visit Anchorage and deliver the same message to that region’s manager.
The global lord Hussein arrived in Ketchikan for a scheduled one-hour meeting with Lilith on his way to Anchorage. His security advance team arrived three days earlier to prepare for his arrival. They closed the airport and evacuated all non-essential personnel for the duration of his visit.
His two bodyguards exited the business jet first. His advance security personnel, assisted by local police, guarded all airport access and observation points during his visit. As Hussein descended the stairs, Lilith Thornblood waited nervously on the tarmac below.
She held out her hand, "Lord Hussein, welcome to Ketchikan."
He didn't condescend to shake her hand, or reply to her greeting. He stoically gestured for her to follow one of his bodyguards into the terminal. He followed her, and the other bodyguard followed them, always scanning for threats.
Lilith and Hussein sat at a mahogany table in the airport's executive conference room. The two bodyguards in dark suits stood behind her.
Hussein’s intense gaze dominated her as he spoke.
"Ms. Thornblood, I'm not satisfied with your management of this region." His voice was smooth, yet edged with menace. "I demand total, unwavering allegiance from one hundred percent of my global citizens, but your region is only ninety-eight percent compliant. What's your problem?"
Lilith swallowed hard, aware of the looming threat in his words. "Sir, I’m working tirelessly to eliminate noncompliance," she assured, though her voice wavered.
Hussein leaned toward her. "Tirelessly is not enough. Achieve one hundred percent compliance in your region, or I will reassign you to a place far worse than here."
Like a whipped dog, "Yes sir. I will sir."
Hussein stood, looking down over her.
"I'm considering you for a janitorial position in Antarctica."
When Hussein started toward the conference room's door, Lilith began to stand. As his host, she needed to be hospitable by walking him back to his plane. But one of the bodyguards gestured for her to stay seated. After Hussein was on the tarmac, the guard left her, alone, in tears.
Katie and Rachel’s Return
As the week in Paradise ended, Katie and Aunt Ella’s bond was stronger than ever, and Katie’s abilities were strong. I thought flying medevac helicopters was cool, but this is way better!
The trumpet sounded, signaling the end of their week, and summoning the 144,000 to assemble in the meadow.
Katie stood among the vast gathering of saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation. Her heart pounded with anticipation.
Suddenly, Jesus appeared before her and everyone else seemed to disappear. He embraced her, and she felt an indescribable sense of divine love, peace, and strength flowing through her. In his holy embrace, she looked up into his eyes, full of compassion and understanding.
"Katie," he said, his voice gentle yet powerful, "Always remember that I love you and I’m proud of you. The path ahead will be difficult, which is why you’ve been given a glimpse of the world that awaits the faithful. When you suffer, I’ll be with you. Stand in faith until the end, and I will reward you with the crown of eternal life."
When he kissed her forehead, God’s ocean of pure and infinite love flooded into her soul. It’s intensity and volume was so overwhelming that her spirit had to ask for it to be lessened, or her flesh would’ve been drowned by it. Now I know why no mortal man can look upon YHWH and live. Our flesh cannot handle infinite amounts of glory, or love.
As the experience subsided, Jesus released his embrace. Holding both her hands, He looked into her eyes and said, “Remember, I’m always with you.”
In the blink of an eye, Katie found herself back at the Pentecost feast, seated across from Rachel. Katie and Rachel locked eyes, and communicated thought-to-thought, without words.
Rachel had a similar experience with Jesus just before she returned. They surmised that he simultaneously spoke personally with each one of the 144,000 before sending them back to their homes on earth. How? He’s God.
Katie looked down to see the fish she was eating was still on her fork, and the fork was in her hand. Not one second had passed on earth during their week in paradise.
However, while time may not have passed, much had changed. Katie and Rachel now had a divine mission and unshakable faith. As they looked at each other, their faces literally glowed, radiant with God's glory. The other five people at the table stared at them in awe and shock, wondering what extraordinary thing they were witnessing. Katie and Rachel exchanged a knowing glance, their hearts bursting to share their incredible experience.
Katie simply said, "We've got many things to tell you."
Coming next week . . . Rachel and Katie’s first proclamation of the gospel ultimatum, with signs following.
